Hichem Sebai, was born in Tunisia since april 28, 1979. He is married and has three children. He is an associate professor in the Higher Institute of Biotechnology of Beja, University of Jendouba, Tunisia. He gets his PhD in 2009 from Carthage University. He is a coordinator of practical works from 2008 to 2011, member of the Scientific Council from 2011 to 2017 and coordinator of three master since 2012 (TAPLC, ARF and ALSA). He is a head of the animal biotechnology department from 2014 to 2017, Director of the Higher Institute of Biotechnology of Beja from 2017 to 2020 and actually, president of the University of Jendouba since December 2020. Also he is a founding member and treasurer of the Tunisian Association of Biotechnology and Bio-Resources Valorization since 2013 and member of the national sectoral commission in Biological Sciences and Biotechnology from 2018.
The research activities of Pr. Hichem SEBAI are directed towards the study of the chemical composition of some medicinal plant extracts and essential oils, their biological and antioxidant capacities in vitro and ex vivo as well as their protective properties against chemical and biological molecules (Loperamide, castor oil, Acetic acid, Dextran sulfate sodium, alloxan, High Fat Diet, High Calorie Diet, LPS,.......)- induced inflammation, oxidative stress as wellas metabolic and digestive system disorders such us ulcer, diarrhea, constipation, colitis and esophagitis in rat and mouse models.
More importantly, his research activities are related to the goal number of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) “Good Health and Well-being”. However, the valorization of medicinal and aromatic plants has two main objectives; (i) The study of their beneficial health effects as well as the production of bio-products such as phyto-medicines and food supplements as well as (ii) The creation of small and medium companies in this topic. These objectives strongly contribute to have good health and good quality of life.
